CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians signed free agent OF Nick Swisher on Thursday and introduced him at a press conference.
Swisher repeatedly talked about how excited he and his family are to be in Cleveland, where he feels “wanted and loved.”
When asked if he felt pressure to carry the lineup, Swisher said he did not.
Indians Manager Terry Francona commented, “We didn’t bring him here to hit ninth. You can believe he’s gonna be right smack in the middle.”
Swisher’s four-year contract has a vesting option for the 2017 season.
He has a career batting average of .256 and owns 251 doubles, 9 triples, 209 home runs and 251 RBIs in 1,209 games over nine seasons.
Swisher, 32, has played with the Oakland A’s, Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees since 2004.
