Yaquis, champions of the Mexican Pacific League. Sonora's squad tonight became the kings of the 2011-2012 season by shutting out the Guasave Algodoneros by a score of 19-0. As a result, the squad won the Sonoran right to represent the country's winter baseball in the 2012 Caribbean Series to be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from next February 2.
Marco Carrillo (1-0) pitched extremely well in six scoreless innings only allowing three hits, a walk and six strikeouts, taking the historic victory.
This was the eighth time that the championship series endeds in a minimum of 4 games.
The champion's triumph was supported by the armed attack of the Yaquis which started in the very first inning against Francisco Cordova scoring five time. After the first out, Alfredo Amezaga punished Cordoba twith a long homer to right field. Karim Garcia reached base on error and then stole second base. Cañizarez Barbarian followed with an rbi single. Doug Clark then single and with runners on the corners, Iker Franco unloaded on Cordova and homered to right field driving home three runs and a total of five in the inning.
Cordoba only lasted one inning. Mauricio Lara was excellent in relief pitching 3.2 innings giving up a pair of hits, a walk, and struckout one.
The Yaquis extended the lead to 7-0 when Carlos Valencia homered and Karim Garcia had a run scoring single.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Yaquis swept in with a massive attack scoring eleven times highlighted by Sergio Contreras' four rbi's one on a single and three with a double that cleared the bases. Contreras ended the night with five runs batted in.
For his part, the Dominican Eddie Diaz joined the list of managers who have won two championships of PML.
After the obligatory celebrations, the kings of the Mexican winter ball will start making preparations to make the trip Santo Domingo, where, in the next days will be facing the Dominican team to start off the 2012 Caribbean Series.
