Royals prospect erratic but effective over seven innings

Carolina 2, Mayaguez 1
Mario Santiago was erratic but effective over seven innings as the Gigantes handed the Indios their second straight setback. The Royals prospect gave up an unearned run on five hits and five walks while striking out six to improve to 2-0. Astros catching prospect Rene Garcia supplied Carolina's offense with a two-run homer, his first, while former Mets farmhand Jesus Feliciano singled home the lone run for Mayaguez.
Ponce 3, Caguas 2
Former Major Leaguer John Rodriguez led off the bottom of the ninth inning with his sixth homer, giving the Leones their second win in a row. Dodgers infielder Ivan De Jesus went 2-for-4 with an RBI to raise his average to .413 for Ponce, while Nationals infielder Alex Cora had two hits and drove in a run for Caguas.

Culiacan 3, Hermosillo 2
Padres catching prospect Ali Solis had two hits, including an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning that helped the Tomateros rally for their second straight win. Sergio Gastelum delivered a walk-off single in the ninth for Culiacan, while Major League veteran Jorge Cantu went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Naranjeros.
Los Mochis 4, Navojoa 1
Former Minor Leaguer Adam Thomas struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to record his 14th save and nail down the Cañeros' second straight win. Cardinals prospect Jermaine Curtis singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning for Los Mochis, while Rafael Diaz allowed one hit over four scoreless frames for Navojoa.
Mexicali 8, Obregon 3
Padres prospect Matt Clark homered, drove in three runs, scored twice and fell a triple shy of the cycle to lead the Aguilas to their third consecutive win. Former Major Leaguer Oscar Robles also had three hits, including a solo homer, for Mexicali, while Carlos Valencia drilled a three-run shot in a losing cause.
Guasave 6, Mazatlan 2
Former Minor Leaguer Gabriel Gutierrez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to keep the Algodoñeros atop the second-half standings. Jose Rodriguez chipped in two hits and drove in two runs for Guasave, while Major League veteran Miguel Ojeda delivered an RBI double for the Venados.

•Giovanni Soto (RP, Gigantes de Carolina): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K. Overall, Soto continues to pitch well in Puerto Rico and he looks to be 100% recovered from the left elbow neuritis which sidelined him for most of the regular season. He has now pitched in 11 games and has a nice 1.46 ERA and has allowed just 7 hits and has 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched. He has also been equally tough on lefties (.167 AVG, .452 OPS) and righties (.182 AVG, .561 OPS). If you were going to be critical of anything of him this offseason it is his 7 walks.
